ID/Title: Separation Allowance
Date: October 10, 1915
Creator: West Lancashire Association
Description: The dependents of men serving at the front were entitled to a Separation Allowance, as well as a portion of their pay. The sisters at St Mary’s Handsworth collected this on behalf of the children in St Joseph’s Home. However, owing to the rising prices of food and other essentials, by 1915, they had to apply to charge the Board of Guardians an extra shilling a week per child.
