During World War I, civilians around the world felt called to contribute to “the war effort”, in order to support their country with as many resources as possible. The Sisters of Mercy felt no different; across the United States the sisters raised money in their schools, purchased Liberty bonds, and worked with the Red Cross. The Sisters of Mercy of Great Britain also raised money in their schools. In Australia, the sisters held concerts and festivals in order to raise money. They also created and organized care packages. Some Australian Sisters of Mercy even received Junior Cadet training.
